We are scientists - 29.9.17

We have been scientists in Maple class this week. We have applied our knowledge of what plants need to grow to create our own cress investigations and we're looking forward to analysing the results over the next week. In Maths, we have been focusing on place value. We have been breaking numbers up into tens and ones and using this to compare and order numbers. We had lots of fun making our initial using tens and ones and then finding the total of  the letter. This has been our last week learning about Rapunzel. Today we've ended this work with a creative write where we've pretended to be Rapunzel and written a  diary entry. Well done to Kaitlin who is star of the week for making a really positive transition to the school and learning our classroom rules. We're all so pleased you've joined Maple! Jake is spending the weekend with Night for showing brilliant listening skills. Reminder - It's our 50th birthday on Monday! We will be celebrating with the chil

Traditional Tales - 22.9.17

We have been reading the traditional tale Rapunzel in English this week. We've compared two versions (Ladybird and Bethan Woollvin) and looked for similarities and differences. Which one was your favourite? Rafferty – 2 nd because the witch was kinder Kaitlyn – 2 nd because at the end Rapunzel dresses up as a superhero Ethan – 1 st because I knew that version well In Maths, we've been investigating the = sign. We've learnt that = means the same as and doesn't always have to be at the end of a number sentence e.g. 6 + 4 = 10 or 10 = 6 + 4. We've used the greater than and less than signs to compare numbers that aren't equal. We've been learning about the conditions of growth needed for plants to survive in Science. We read a story called 'The Tiny Seed' by Eric Carle and explored why seeds didn't survive in different places. Ellis - 'One seed got stuck in the snow so it didn't have any sunlight' Myles - 'The wind bl

Welcome to Maple Class! - 15.9.17

It's been a busy first couple of weeks in Maple Class and we've all settled in really well. Yesterday we went on a school trip to Knebworth House because our topic is called Once Upon A Time. What was your favourite part? Ramsey and Caitlin – My favourite part was looking at the big dinosaurs Lucy – I liked the Three Little Pig’s huts. We huffed and puffed but we couldn’t blow them down. Sam – My favourite part of the story trial was when we stomped over the Three Billy Goats Gruff bridge. Well done to everyone for representing our school so well on the visit - the adults are very proud! In English, we wrote recounts of our trip using time connectives. In Maths this week we have been using our double facts to solve near doubles. Eden said ‘If I know double 4 = 8, I can use that fact to solve 4+ 3 because it’s just one less’. On Monday, we started learning Spanish with Mrs Couch. We're looking forward to learning lots of new words and phrases. Well done to Rams
