Children In Need - 17.11.17


Today we came to school dressed in spots and stripes to raise money for children in need. Thank you to everyone who took part and made a donation.
Today in creative writing we wrote our own Harry and the bucketful of dinosaur stories. Here are some of our story titles:

Ciara and the bucketful of Beanie Boos

William and the bucketful of cars

Kaspar and the bucketful of Mario karts.

In English we’ve been learning about non-chronological reports. Next week we will be writing a report about dinosaurs. You’re home learning this week is to research some facts about dinosaurs in preparation for this.

We’ve enjoyed having our grown ups in to visit during work shadowing this week. We have been exploring money and giving change in Maths. Harry said 'we can use an empty number line to find change if we can’t solve it mentally'

Yesterday was World Philosophy day. We read the story ‘Zoo’ by Anthony Brown and discussed whether we think animals should be kept in zoos.

Luca – I think animals should be in zoos because if not we wouldn’t be able to see all of them if they don’t live in England.

Jake – I don’t think animals should be in zoos because they get more space in the wild.

Ava – Some animals are put into the zoo so that they don’t become extinct.
Remember that in philosophy there is no right or wrong answer and we value everyone's opinion.
Congratulations to Luca who is Star of the Week for helping a friend who felt upset. Rio is spending with weekend with Night for following our 'Taking responsibility' learning owl skill.

Welcome to Maple Class! - 15.9.17

It's been a busy first couple of weeks in Maple Class and we've all settled in really well. Yesterday we went on a school trip to Knebworth House because our topic is called Once Upon A Time. What was your favourite part? Ramsey and Caitlin – My favourite part was looking at the big dinosaurs Lucy – I liked the Three Little Pig’s huts. We huffed and puffed but we couldn’t blow them down. Sam – My favourite part of the story trial was when we stomped over the Three Billy Goats Gruff bridge. Well done to everyone for representing our school so well on the visit - the adults are very proud! In English, we wrote recounts of our trip using time connectives. In Maths this week we have been using our double facts to solve near doubles. Eden said ‘If I know double 4 = 8, I can use that fact to solve 4+ 3 because it’s just one less’. On Monday, we started learning Spanish with Mrs Couch. We're looking forward to learning lots of new words and phrases. Well done to Rams

Bonfire Night - 3.11.17

This week our writing, guided reading and topic have been centred about Bonfire Night. We have been learning about why we celebrate bonfire night during topic. We shared the story of The Gunpowder Plot. Max – Guy Fawkes wanted to blow up the houses of parliament but he couldn’t because the guards found him. Sam – Guy Fawkes put gunpowder at the bottom of the king's throne. We thought about how modern day celebrations are linked to The Gunpowder Plot. In English, we have been poets exploring lots of different language such as onomatopoeia (sound words),rhyme and alliteration. Next week we will be using our ideas to create our own firework poems. Today we wrote a rocket diary in creative writing, imagining that we were a rocket blasting into the sky. Today we came to school wearing bright colours to raise awareness of staying safe in the dark. We have revised road safety as well as ways to stay safe on bonfire night. NSPCC Number Day - 2.2.18

Today we have come to school wearing a number to help raise money for NSPCC. Thank you to everyone who has donated. Sam - I'm wearing number 9 and if you turn 9 around it looks like a 6 Rafferty - I'm wearing 10. I know 5 + 5 = 10 Ciara - I'm wearing 1. Double 1 = 2 Max - I'm wearing 36. It's a 2 digit number. To celebrate number day, we have been completing lots of money activities. We worked with our partner to find different combinations of money to pay for fruit. We even got to buy our own special snack too as a treat! In English, we have been reading a story called 'The Hunter' which was set in Africa. We have been using noun phrases and adverbs to describe the setting. In Science, we applied our scientific knowledge of habitats as well as our creativity skills to create shoe box habitats.
