The Gruffalo - 12.1.18


We have been thinking about special people in PSHE. We drew around our hand and labelled each finger with a different special person. Miss Forrester called this ‘our network’. Ellis said ‘When we need to talk to someone about a worry or problem think about the people on our network’. Rafferty said ‘If the first person is busy or not there, talk to one of the other people on your network’.

In English, we retold the Gruffalo story in our own words.
Jake – ‘I used an exclamation mark when the fox jumped out in front of the mouse’
Lucy – ‘I used expanded noun phrases to describe the fox. An expanded noun phrase is when you put two or more adjectives in front of the noun like the sly, creepy fox’.
Our new computing topic this half term is called ‘We are photographers’.
Here are some rules for taking a good photo:
Ciara – make sure you put the strap around your wrist in case you drop it
Leo – keep the camera still so that the photograph isn’t blurry.
Kaspar – review your photograph by pressing the play button and looking at the gallery. You can delete it if you don’t like it.


Our topic this term is 'Colours of the World'. Each class has been given a colour to focus on next week and Maple's colours are gold and silver.


Well done to Ciara who is Star of the Week for showing good listening and turn taking. GG is spending the weekend with Night. GG is always tries her best - well done.

Bonfire Night - 3.11.17

This week our writing, guided reading and topic have been centred about Bonfire Night. We have been learning about why we celebrate bonfire night during topic. We shared the story of The Gunpowder Plot. Max – Guy Fawkes wanted to blow up the houses of parliament but he couldn’t because the guards found him. Sam – Guy Fawkes put gunpowder at the bottom of the king's throne. We thought about how modern day celebrations are linked to The Gunpowder Plot. Children In Need - 17.11.17

Today we came to school dressed in spots and stripes to raise money for children in need. Thank you to everyone who took part and made a donation. Today in creative writing we wrote our own Harry and the bucketful of dinosaur stories. Here are some of our story titles: Ciara and the bucketful of Beanie Boos William and the bucketful of cars Kaspar and the bucketful of Mario karts. In English we’ve been learning about non-chronological reports. Next week we will be writing a report about dinosaurs. You’re home learning this week is to research some facts about dinosaurs in preparation for this. We’ve enjoyed having our grown ups in to visit during work shadowing this week. Welcome to Maple Class! - 15.9.17

It's been a busy first couple of weeks in Maple Class and we've all settled in really well. Yesterday we went on a school trip to Knebworth House because our topic is called Once Upon A Time. What was your favourite part? Ramsey and Caitlin – My favourite part was looking at the big dinosaurs Lucy – I liked the Three Little Pig’s huts. We huffed and puffed but we couldn’t blow them down. Sam – My favourite part of the story trial was when we stomped over the Three Billy Goats Gruff bridge. Well done to everyone for representing our school so well on the visit - the adults are very proud! In English, we wrote recounts of our trip using time connectives. In Maths this week we have been using our double facts to solve near doubles. Eden said ‘If I know double 4 = 8, I can use that fact to solve 4+ 3 because it’s just one less’.
