Sharing assembly - 16.3.18

Congratulations to everyone for your fantastic sharing assembly with such clear, confident talking and super singing!


This week has been British Science Week. We have created reptiles out of just square pieces of paper. We also learnt about air resistance by making parachutes from different materials and investigating which material fell the slowest.


We are learning about Queens in history and have been recording facts in English ready to write a non-chronological report next week. We read a funny story called 'The Queen's knickers'. In creative writing we designed our own pair of knickers and wrote a letter to the Queen explaining what they are and what occasion she can wear them.


It's been division week this week in maths so we have been applying out sharing strategies to solve problems.


Well done to Noreen for learning her sharing assembly lines very last minute - you are spending the weekend with Night. Rio is Star of the Week for being spotted around school for taking responsibility and enjoying learning.


We're looking forward to seeing lots of you at the school disco tonight!

Welcome to Maple Class! - 15.9.17

It's been a busy first couple of weeks in Maple Class and we've all settled in really well. Yesterday we went on a school trip to Knebworth House because our topic is called Once Upon A Time. What was your favourite part? Ramsey and Caitlin – My favourite part was looking at the big dinosaurs Lucy – I liked the Three Little Pig’s huts. We huffed and puffed but we couldn’t blow them down. Sam – My favourite part of the story trial was when we stomped over the Three Billy Goats Gruff bridge. Well done to everyone for representing our school so well on the visit - the adults are very proud! In English, we wrote recounts of our trip using time connectives. In Maths this week we have been using our double facts to solve near doubles. Eden said ‘If I know double 4 = 8, I can use that fact to solve 4+ 3 because it’s just one less’. Bonfire Night - 3.11.17

This week our writing, guided reading and topic have been centred about Bonfire Night. We have been learning about why we celebrate bonfire night during topic. We shared the story of The Gunpowder Plot. Max – Guy Fawkes wanted to blow up the houses of parliament but he couldn’t because the guards found him. Sam – Guy Fawkes put gunpowder at the bottom of the king's throne. We thought about how modern day celebrations are linked to The Gunpowder Plot. In English, we have been poets exploring lots of different language such as onomatopoeia (sound words),rhyme and alliteration. Next week we will be using our ideas to create our own firework poems. Today we wrote a rocket diary in creative writing, imagining that we were a rocket blasting into the sky. Today we came to school wearing bright colours to raise awareness of staying safe in the dark. We have revised road safety as well as ways to stay safe on bonfire night. NSPCC Number Day - 2.2.18

Today we have come to school wearing a number to help raise money for NSPCC. Thank you to everyone who has donated. Sam - I'm wearing number 9 and if you turn 9 around it looks like a 6 Rafferty - I'm wearing 10. I know 5 + 5 = 10 Ciara - I'm wearing 1. Double 1 = 2 Max - I'm wearing 36. It's a 2 digit number. To celebrate number day, we have been completing lots of money activities. We worked with our partner to find different combinations of money to pay for fruit. We even got to buy our own special snack too as a treat! In English, we have been reading a story called 'The Hunter' which was set in Africa. We have been using noun phrases and adverbs to describe the setting. In Science, we applied our scientific knowledge of habitats as well as our creativity skills to create shoe box habitats.
